Lyrics
THE WRECKING CREW
written by: Kasey Rausch
She came home to a broken dream
A life’s long work. Not a simple thing
Her mother’s heart did skip a beat
To find her home ‘neath the big man’s feet
Oh how she cried. Not for her lover. Not for her pride.
A cry so new even she didn’t know where to fly to next
Or where the wind would blow
It was a perfect day. There was a breeze on high
All the birds were singin’ as she was passin’ by.
But with a shift of the wind she heard the engine roar
They were comin’ back to take a little more.
Oh how she cried. Not for her lover. Not for her pride.
A cry so new even she didn’t know where to fly to next
Or where the wind would blow
And her babies wept. Hungry mouths open wide.
She had a bird’s eye view of the mess they made.
When she left town it was a colder day.
She’ll build again in a land brand new.
Wait out the winter with the wrecking crew.
But oh how she’ll cry. Not for her lover. Not for her pride.
A cry so true even they will know
She’ll have to build again when the wind does blow.
